Looking for funding for your Touch Rugby games?

At TBUK HQ, we recently received the following…

FreeSport 2011 Round 2 – Application Surgeries  Applications for FreeSport Round 2 opened this week.

Sports clubs and organisations, youth and community groups can apply for grants of up to £1,500 to run free sporting activities between December 2011 and March 2012.

The application form can be accessed online from 12 September and you will have until 5pm, 7 October 2011 to submit your application.

FreeSport provides free sporting opportunities to Londoners of all ages and abilities to encourage greater participation in sport and physical activity in the build up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.  FreeSport is part of the Mayor’s PlaySport programme, helping organisations deliver a grass-roots sporting legacy across London.During the application process a number of surgeries will be held by the Pro-Active Partnerships (North, South, East, West and Central London).

We recommend attending a surgery as it may provide you with a better opportunity for success during the competitive bidding process.  The surgeries aim to provide applicants with guidance on how to complete the application form. They will enable you to ask questions about the programme and the application criteria, highlighting key points that organisations will need to address to be successful.

For details on how to attend these surgeries, please visit the applications website.  If you wish to attend a surgery, please confirm attendance with your Pro-Active Partnership.Surgeries will be hosted within each Pro-Active region (North, South, East, West and Central London www.pro-activelondon.org) to ensure all local issues and needs are addressed and that FreeSport is targeting hard to reach participants throughout London.  We hope you find the surgeries useful.

Kind regards,  FreeSport team

Trying something new

Touch Base UK would like to become more helpful in terms of keeping you informed about all things Touch Rugby, at least in the UK!

We’d like to create a more attractive and user-friendly website, and to serve our users better, perhaps by putting up their own news bulletins, for example.  We’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas!

If you have any, please email us at suggestions@touchbaseuk.org … in the meantime, enjoy this – just for fun!

Celebrate 2011 RWC in SW London

Come and celebrate the 2011 Rugby World Cup with a Kiwi breakfast in front of a big-screen showing of the England-Argentina game, followed by a social, mixed Touch Rugby tournament, in Southfields!

TBUK friends at Southfields Baptist Church (almost on top of Southfields tube station) will be providing a slap-up ‘Kiwi breakfast’ whilst you watch the game, and then registered teams will be led out to play a social tournament in the nearby Wimbledon Park.

… Don’t know what a Kiwi Breakfast is? … Then come and find out!! :o

Registration has just been extended to “end of play” on Saturday 3rd September – please do let Jeb or Pena know by then if you’d like breakfast (to help with catering) and if you’d like to play / if you’re bringing a team (to help with the draws) … at £5 per person for both breakfast and the tournament, you can’t go wrong! (See flyer for contact details)

See you there! Kia ora!

Touch Rugby throughout Europe

Around this time last year, the IRB released a great little video highlighting the rise of Touch Rugby as an international sport with an independent governing body, with special mention of the European Championships.

We were privileged to have David Woolley – interviewed towards the end of the video – help us with some coaching at last year’s Big Church Day Out.

Enjoy the video on YouTube here
